hello, internet
what better time than 7AM on Christmas day to start blogging again, huh? the last time I kept any sort of daily written record of my thoughts and ideas was back in high school - and I can safely say there have been many changes in my perspectives since then.i’m actually excited to have a place to write things down again. i’ve missed that form of outlet, so starting again will give me something else to do on my iPhone, right?
as of yesterday I started using Rhapsody and i’m loving the program! i’m still in my free trial period, but thus far most bands i’ve looked up have had their full catalog of albums. all I have to do is add them to my library and they’re mine. it’s like shopping on iTunes [back when I was in college at OU living off of student loans… oh the days…] and having then right on my phone whenever I open up the app.
i’m listening to animal collective’s new album ‘merriwheather post pavilion’ as I write this [fuck yes! to jailbreaking my phone and being able to muti-task on it] and it’s amazing. I think even if you didn’t like their kind of sound, most tracks are pretty amazing. I listened to it on a long drive yesterday while running errands and felt in my own world while getting from one place to another.
the way they are able to play with the beats and motions of their sound is amazing to me. while driving around yesterday it made me think back to an art course I took spring quarter my junior year. one of the things we talked about was the time key of current pop music [and how lame, boring, generic, (insert adjctv here) it is] and were asked to bring examples of music that wasn’t in that time key. i think that their sound sometimes is confused for noise because of how different it is but the key is finding the odd beats that in each song. my favorite song right now is ‘daily routine’ which was the inspiration for the title of my blog, the daily. it may change [the blog title] but that song is amazing. I invite everyone to give the album a listen but under these conditions: 1] you have to be alone and listen to it for yourself 2] and while listening, smoking some herbal medicine will only enhance the albums’ sounds.
if you get a chance to listen to it, leave a msg and let me know what you thought of it. sober or intoxicated, hahah! but trust me - it makes a difference.
